"Herefordshire’s New Conservative Council, Roads and Housing – Bullinghope shows the way"

You probably saw this headline after the May elections in the Hereford Times. It refers to Conservative agenda of building roads and paying for them through housing. They have been inspired to it by the Bullinghope example, where 300 houses put into the Unitary Development Plan at the last moment last year to help pay for the Rotherwas Access Road. The houses are just south of the railway line in Lower Bullingham south of Hereford near Bullinghope, in green belt land.

The Dinedor Hill Action Association have always opposed the road and the housing. They are now challenging the Lower Bullingham housing decision under section 287 of the 1990 Planning Act that allows six weeks from the date of adoption for anyone to oppose a Unitary Development Plan, in the courts. Their solicitors are the Rights and Justice Centre, Friends of the Earth who are acting for nothing. Their barrister David Forsdyke is acting on a no-win no-fee basis. Nevertheless funds are still needed, to pay costs, should the case be lost. We need to raise £15,000.

Remember, the Conservatives have stated that the Bullingham housing example is to be the model for future development. If we can show them that it’s not as easy as all that, we may get more sensible plans in the future. Even if we lose it will make them think twice.
